About Golden Word Games
What this site is
Golden Word Games is a small collection of free word games and printable activities that take their inspiration from the golden age of entertainment — the music, television, movies, radio and everyday objects of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Word searches, nostalgia trivia, bingo sets and a monthly activity calendar: everything plays in the browser, needs no account, and can be printed in a clean, readable format.
Who this is for
Golden Word Games is made for grown-ups who remember — people who can still hum the theme tune of a 1960s sitcom, who learned the jive at a church hall, and who never quite got over their first car. If you grew up on the music, television, films and everyday objects of the 1960s, 70s and 80s, this site was built with you in mind.
It is made for the people around them too: a daughter looking for something to do together on a Sunday afternoon, a son who wants to send his mum a link she can read without squinting, a carer planning an activity for a group, an organiser printing a batch of bingo cards, or a grandchild who wants to hear the stories a word list brings back.
That is why the text is big, the contrast is high, the buttons are large, and nothing here is timed or scored against you. Ten minutes or an hour, on a phone, a tablet, a laptop — or on paper.
Why it is built this way
Most puzzle pages are designed for a phone held in a young hand: small type, timers, pop-ups, and a lot of scrolling before you reach the puzzle. We wanted the opposite — a quiet corner of the internet where the puzzle is the whole point, the writing is plain, and nobody has to create an account to fill in a word search.
So everything plays and prints without signing in, your activity stays on your own device, and the advertising that keeps the site free is kept away from the games themselves and explained plainly on the advertising page.
What we stand for
- Free and simple. No sign-up, no paywall, no clutter around the games.
- Readable by design. Body text of at least 18 px, contrast of 7:1 or better (WCAG AAA), a high-contrast switch, and print CSS tuned for black ink on white paper.
- Respectful content. Activities are offered for engagement, enjoyment and meaningful activity. Golden Word Games is not a medical or therapeutic product, and we make no claims about health or cognitive outcomes.
- Honest fact-checking. Trivia answers are compiled from public reference sources with care. If you ever spot a mistake, please tell us via the contact page and we will correct it promptly.
How the site is made
Everything runs as a plain static website — no accounts, no servers holding your data, no comment walls. Content is delivered straight to your browser, and your activity stays on your device. See the privacy policy for details.
What is coming
Themed word lists, more trivia decades and monthly calendars are added in batches all the time. New games and collections appear on the calendar as they arrive.
